About Historic Barkeyville Academy

Historic Barkeyville Academy was established for the purpose of preserving the rich history of the Allegheny Region and its churches.

Located in Barkeyville, Pennsylvania, the Academy served as an institution of higher learning from 1881-1906; several prominent individuals from the then-West Pennsylvania Eldership (present-day Allegheny Region) passed through the Academy.

Recognizing the history of the Barkeyville Academy and the Allegheny Region Conference are synonymous with one another, the Board of Directors of the Barkeyville, Academy strives to preserve and interpret the history and legacy of those who have come before us and pass that legacy on to future generations.

Psalm 78:6 says”…so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.”

Our Mission

The Historic Barkeyville Academy exists to encourage the collection and preservation of artifacts and documents relating to the history of the Allegheny Region Conference and to encourage historical research and the writing of that history.
